The Rhythm of Winter Solstice

The Rhythm of Winter Solstice

December 21, 2020

(Image and quote from the book, Wintering, by Katherine May)

The magic of Winter Solstice begins today, in the Northern Hemisphere
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is the day that the Sun peaks its head above our horizons for the shortest amount of time, creating the shortest day and the longest night of the entire year.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is also the tipping point at the top of the mountain, for after the Winter Solstice, we begin to gain new light again.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Today, I'd like to share about the symbolic dance that occurs between the Sun and the Earth, and with us as a Collective, on the Winter Solstice.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
From a Human Design perspective, the Sun is in the Gate 10. The flavor of this Gate has notes of Beingness (vs. doing-ness), some notes of Self-Love, and with hints of Naturalness. This is the ultimate self-care Gate.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Earth is now in the Gate 15. This is where the Sun goes during the Summer Solstice - the opposite pole. The flavor of this Gate has notes of Radiance (like the shimmering light that reflects off of freshly fallen snow in the morning), has bold notes of the deep rhythms of the Earth, including Magnetism (just like gravity), and has hints of Humility and Compassion for humankind.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The way that the Sun and the Earth are dancing together right now creates a beautiful recipe for ritual, loving celebration, rest, and coming back home to what's important (ourselves, each other and nature).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is the time for Sacred Silence - going within, practicing self-compassion and nurturance, and relaxing into the Earth's rhythms while the fields lie fallow.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And it can also be the time for celebration. At this time of year I like to celebrate the Inner Winter and the rhythms of women. In Norse culture, this is a time for celebrating the Goddess Freyja. In India, the Goddess Saravati.

However you decide to spend your Winter Solstice, I hope that it includes true loving-kindness for yourself, others, body + soul. (And, apparently we have some supportive dynamics happening in the cosmos for that -- Saturn and Jupiter enter Aquarius, which should lighten things up for us, after a long, shadowy year.)

Here's to warm hugs, massive mugs of reishi hot cacao, and lots of love ❤️
