Rest Rhythms

Rest Rhythms

November 23, 2020

The call for rest has been so real for so many women this month. The exhaustion of 2020 has finally kicked in and we’re ready to surrender.

I wrote an article in 2018 about daring to rest for an entire month and what it felt like to take a whole month off. I have to say, even though I’ve come a long way since then, including being a teacher of one of the most potent forms of deep rest—yoga nidra, when it comes to giving myself rest before I really need it, I’ve now reached the point beyond really needing it. It’s no longer a need. It’s a requirement for my health and sanity. And, I’m no longer willing to push the envelope here anymore.

I’m no longer just being daring enough to rest. I’m now finally resting without guilt or shame.

If you’ve read my online journal before, you might have seen some of the articles I’ve written about the menstrual cycle, perimenopause, the seasons of Mother Earth, and the rhythms that we share with her.

In the season that we’re approaching right now in the northern hemisphere—the winter solstice—we’re called to rest naturally. Just like what we’re called to do during our Inner Winter (aka menstruation). Perhaps we don’t always hear the call, nor do we heed the call, but after a year like 2020, I believe that the rest of humanity has also reached that point of longer willing to push the boundaries with rest.

Resting without guilt or shame is not a necessity anymore—it’s a welcomed requirement—and it feels damned good.

If you’re feeling this call for getting into sync with deep rest rhythms, download my free Sacred Sleep + Dreams guide. It includes a free, downloadable yoga nidra mp3 and some other rest rituals that I think you’ll love.
